25 Story Apartment Building to be demolished due to Extensive Construction Defects
A 25 story apartment complex in downtown Seattle is going to be demolished because the defective construction is so severe that the building cannot be saved. The McGuire apartment building, just a decade old, will begin to be demolished in mid April. The most serious defect with the building are rusting and corroding cables within concrete slabs. The cables were not properly rust proofed or sealed during original construction, and the owners concluded that the only option at this point was to tear the building down, reports the Seattle Post.(http://www.seattlepi.com/local/436896_demolish10.html. From the newspaper article, it is evident that the demolition costs will be extensive due to steps that are necessary to minimize damage to adjacent properties. Just the demolition process is expected to take 12-16 months.
