Trial to begin for man accused of killing cyclist while drunk

| Nov 21, 2013 | Firm News

Trial is set to start today in Garden Grove for Alex Trujillo, who is accused of crashing his car into a bicyclist and killing her while under the influence of prescription drugs and alcohol. Trujillo has pleaded not guilty to felony murder in the death of Catherine Busse of Seal Beach.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Trujillo had a blood alcohol level of 0.11 when he crashed his pickup into the victim in October, 2008. He was also under the influence of multiple prescription drugs. Trujillo swerved off the road and struck the rider, who was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk with her son. She died at the scene of the accident.

Trujillo had previously been convicted of driving under the influence. He faces a possible sentence of 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
