Los Angeles sues contractor over runway construction defects

On Behalf of | Dec 27, 2013 | Construction Law

The city of Los Angeles has filed a lawsuit against a construction company for a faulty runway at the Los Angeles International Airport. The runway in question is only five years old. The lawsuit alleges that that the runway has design flaws as well as flaws in how the concrete was poured.

According to the lawsuit, the concrete the company used did not meet the specification requirements. In addition, the methods and technique the company used when pouring the concrete for the runway were deficient and will require the city to replace the runway. Airport officials say the runway is still safe to use but it will need to be replaced sooner than anticipated.

The construction company named in the lawsuit responded by saying that the city’s lawsuit has no merit since it missed the deadline for filing a lawsuit. They said that the city should have filed the lawsuit within four years after the project ended. The runway was completed five years ago. The defendants also said the airport was monitoring their construction work so it doesn’t make sense that they didn’t notice the supposed defects until after the project was completed.

This case is an example of the legal action individuals, companies and organizations can take against construction companies and contractors for construction defects and problems. Construction defects can lead to safety issues and costly repairs that are not anticipated or expected when first deciding to have construction work completed.

Construction companies and contractors can be held liable for construction defects. Individuals or companies that have construction defects or a dispute with a construction company should consult a construction law attorney for help and to see what legal action can be taken.
