When you hear the term construction defects, you might think only of something being built incorrectly. While it is true that this is one type of defect, there are actually many types of defects that might occur in a building project. One of the possible defects is present before any work is done at the construction site. This is a defect in the planning of the project.
When a building is erected, the contractor follows a set of blueprints. These outline everything that is necessary to know about the building, including all applicable measurements and placements of vital components like load-bearing walls. When anything is wrong with the blueprints, there might be a defect that impacts the structural integrity of the building.
Another defect that has to do with planning that doesn’t have to do with the design of the building itself is the drainage plan. Making sure that a building has adequate drainage is imperative. Without proper drainage, the building might not be on stable ground or may have leaking into the basement.
Other construction defects have to do with the materials and workmanship. When you are making a legal claim based on a construction defect, you need to make sure that you are considering the type of claim so that you are going after the right parties in your claim. This can take considerable investigation and might prove more difficult to determine as time moves on. Typically, the sooner in the project the defect is found, the easier it will be to determine what happened and who should be held liable.
